Park Ridge Christmas Eve Sing
Last year over 200 Park Ridge residents convened at City Hall on Christmas Eve to share the joy of the holiday with family, friends, neighbors and community members while singing carols.
Members of the community were quoted in Journal and Topics as saying:
"I'm grateful. Being able to spend a little bit of time on this day with my neighbors meant a lot to me."
-Jackie Mathews, Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce Executive Director
"It really was a wonderful event, and a great testament to the great people in Park Ridge."
-Marty Maloney, Park Ridge Mayor
"I'm thrilled. I think my favorite part was seeing so many people walk up and wanting to share the experience together and seeing everyone with families, and running into old friends and neighbors, and being festive together. I think it's just a joyful event, and I'm thrilled everyone got to enjoy it."
-Allison Troy, Park Ridge Resident
"I liked the [Christmas Sing] because I got to see a lot of my relatives, and so many people coming together for the same reason and everyone working hard and everybody just singing and having fun and helping out too."
-Tommy Troy, 3rd Grade Student at Roosevelt

A grassroots initiative inspired by a local Park Ridge Resident
The Park Ridge Christmas Eve Song Sing began with a heartfelt desire to recreate a beloved tradition from Basking Ridge, New Jersey. A local resident, who grew up attending the festive carol sing in her hometown, wanted to share that joy with her community. Inspired by the connections made through song and shared experiences, she envisioned an event where families and friends could come together in celebration. With this vision in mind, the inaugural Christmas Eve Sing was organized, bringing the spirit of Christmas to Park Ridge and fostering a sense of unity among its residents.
A Century of Tradition
The Basking Ridge Christmas Eve Carol Sing is a cherished tradition that began in 1924. What started with Ray Moffet and John Carswell driving around town in a Chevy truck has blossomed into a heartwarming community event held in the town center since 1927. With the addition of a volunteer brass band in 1932, participants joyfully sing along to nine classic carols. Today, this magical evening draws hundreds to thousands of local residents, celebrating a century of holiday spirit together. Park Ridge Christmas Sing Song Sheet
#1 OH COME ALL YE FAITHFUL
O come, all ye faithful, Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem!
Come, and behold him, Born the King of Angels!
Refrain
O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord.
Sing, choirs of angels, Sing, in exultation!
Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above!
Glory to God, all Glory in the Highest!
Refrain
Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, Born this happy morning,
Jesus to Thee be all glory given; Word of the Father,
Now in flesh appearing!
Refrain
#2 HARK THE HERALD ANGELS SING
Hark! The herald angels sing,
“Glory to the new born King.
Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!”
Joyful all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With angelic hosts proclaim,
“Christ is born in Bethlehem!”
Hark! The herald angels sing,
“Glory to the new born King!”
Hail, the heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the sun of righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
Risen with healing in His wings.
Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that we no more may die,
Born to raise us from the earth,
Born to give us second birth.
Hark! The herald angels sing,
“Glory to the new born King!”
#3 FROSTY THE SNOWMAN
Frosty the snowman
Was a jolly happy soul
With a corn cob pipe and a button nose
And two eyes made out of coal
Frosty the Snowman
Made the children laugh and play
And were they surprised when before their eyes
He came to life that day
There must have been some magic
In that old silk hat they found
For when they placed it on his head
He began to dance around
Frosty the snowman
Was alive as he could be
And the children say he could laugh and play
Just the same as you and me
Frosty the snowman
Knew the sun was hot that day
So he said "Let's run and have some fun
Now before I melt away."
Down to the village
With a broomstick in his hand
Running here and there, all around the square
Saying, "Catch me if you can!"
He led them down the streets of town
Right to the traffic cop
He only paused a moment
When they heard him holler, "Stop!"
Frosty the snowman
Had to hurry on his way
But he waved goodbye saying, "Don't you cry
I'll be back again, someday."
#4 IT CAME UPON A MIDNIGHT CLEAR
It came upon a midnight clear,
That glorious song of old,
From angels bending near the earth,
To touch their harps of gold:
“Peace on the earth, good will to all,
From heaven’s all-gracious King:”
The world in solemn stillness lay,
To hear the angels sing.
Still through the cloven skies they come,
With peaceful wings unfurled,
And still their heavenly music floats
O‘er all the weary world
Above its sad and lowly plains
The bend on hovering wing
And ever o’er its Babel sounds
The blessed angels sing.
For lo, the days are hastening on,
By prophet bards foretold,
When with the ever-circling years
Comes round the age of gold;
When peace shall over all the earth
Its ancient splendors fling,
And the whole world give back the song
Which now the angels sing.
#5 THE FIRST NOEL
The first Noel the angel did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay,
In fields were they lay keeping their sheep,
On a cold winter’s night that was so deep.
Refrain
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.
They looked up and saw a star
Singing in the east beyond them far,
And to the earth it gave great light
And so it continued both day and night
Refrain
#6 SILENT NIGHT, HOLY NIGHT
Silent night, holy night! All is calm, all is bright,
Round yon virgin mother and child!
Holy Infant, so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace.
Silent night, holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight,
Glories stream from heaven afar, Heavenly hosts sing: “Alleluia;”
Christ the Savior is born, Christ the Savior is born.”
Silent night, holy night! Son of God, love’s pure light,
Radiant beams from Thy holy face,
With the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth, Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.
#7 OH LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM
O little town of Bethlehem, How still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep, The silent stars go by.
Yet in thy dark streets shineth, The everlasting light;
The hopes and fears of all the years, Are met in thee tonight.
O holy Child of Bethlehem, Descend to us we pray;
Cast out our sin and enter in, Be born in us today,
We hear the Christmas angels, The great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us, Our Lord Emmanuel!
#8 DECK THE HALLS
Deck the halls with boughs of holly, Fa la la la la, la la la la.
‘Tis the season to be jolly, Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Don we now our gay apparel, Fa la la, la la la, la la la,
Troll the ancient Yuletide carol,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
See the blazing Yule before us, Fa la la la, la la la la.
Strike the harp and join the chorus, Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Follow me in merry measure, Fa la la la la la, la la la.
While I tell of Yuletide treasure, Fa la la la la, la la la la.
#9 WE THREE KINGS OF ORIENT ARE
We three kings of Orient are, Bearing gifts we traverse a-far,
Field and foundation, moor and mountain, Following yonder star.
Refrain
O…star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright;
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect light!
Born a King on Bethlehem’s plain, Gold I bring to crown Him again,
King forever, ceasing never, Over us all to reign.
Refrain
Glorious now behold Him arise, King and God and Sacrifice;
Alleluia, Alleluia, Sounds through the earth and skies.
Refrain
#10 JOY TO THE WORLD
Joy to the world! The Lord is come:
Let the earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven, and heaven and nature sing,
Joy to the world! The Savior reigns:
Let us our songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.
He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders of His love!
#11 RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER
You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen,
Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen
But do you recall
The most famous reindeer of all?
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows
All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say
"Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"
Then how the reindeer loved him
As they shouted out with glee
"Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
You'll go down in history"
(Instrumental)
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it glows
All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games
Then one foggy Christmas Eve

"Rudolph with your nose so bright
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"
Then how the reindeer loved him

#12 JINGLE BELLS
(chorus)
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh-ay!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh
Dashing through the snow, In a one-horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go, Laughing all the way
Bells on bobtail ring, Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight – oh!!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh-ay!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh
Now the ground is white, Go it while you're young
Take the girls tonight, And sing this sleighing song
Just get a bob-tailed bay, Two-forty for his speed
Then, hitch him to an open sleigh, And crack! You'll take the lead – oh!!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh-ay!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh-ay!
Jingle bells, jingle bells. Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh
Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh!!
